Things to Do Near Nissi Beach: The Complete Ayia Napa Activity Guide

Things to do near Nissin Beach

Nissi Beach is the reason most people come to Ayia Napa — and with good reason. Crowned the top beach in Europe for 2024, it delivers everything the Mediterranean promises: powder-white sand, water that shifts from turquoise to deep blue, and a sandy spit you can walk across to a small island at low tide. It’s genuinely one of the most beautiful beaches on the continent.

But if Nissi Beach is all you do in Ayia Napa, you’ll miss the best parts. Within a few kilometres there are sea caves you can only reach by boat, a world-class underwater sculpture museum, jeep tracks into the red-earth hinterland, fishing charters at sunrise, and a food scene that has nothing to do with the strip. This guide covers all of it — with real operators from our directory for every activity.

On the water — boat trips, charters and cruises

Nissi Beach looks spectacular from the shore. From the water, it looks extraordinary. The coastline east of Ayia Napa — sea caves, rock arches, hidden coves, the Cape Greco peninsula — is best seen from a boat, and there’s no shortage of ways to get out there.

Luxury yacht charter

For a private experience, a yacht charter is the move. Most operators out of Ayia Napa harbour cover the sea caves, the coastline toward Cape Greco, and sunset routes back along the shore. Book ahead in July and August — good dates go fast.

Captain Vasilis Boat Charters — Ayia Napa’s best-known luxury yacht charter operator. Private groups, couples, and sunset cruises along the Ayia Napa coastline. Book early in peak season.

DanEri Yachts — Private yacht hire and guided sea excursions from Ayia Napa harbour. Flexible itineraries including sea caves and Cape Greco routes.

Crystal Waves Yachts Charter Cyprus — Luxury yacht rentals from Ayia Napa. Day charters and sunset packages, available for private groups.

Group boat trips and party cruises

Ayia Napa has a well-developed party boat scene — these are proper organised events rather than just a hired vessel, with music, food, and stops for swimming along the coast.

Dolphin Boat Safari — Guided boat excursions and sea tours from Ayia Napa. One of the area’s most established operators, with routes along the sea caves coastline.

The Black Pearl Boat — Cyprus boat cruises from Ayia Napa including the Black Pearl and Fantasy Boat experiences. Party cruises and private hire available.

Blue Lagoon Cruises — Highly-rated cruise operator departing from Ayia Napa. Routes include the sea caves, Cape Greco, and open water swimming stops.

Aphrodite II Cruises — Boat tours and excursions from Ayia Napa harbour with scheduled group departures and private charter options.

Submarine and glass-bottom tours

For families or anyone who wants to see the underwater world without getting wet, the semi-submarine and submarine boat options are genuinely impressive. The waters off Ayia Napa are exceptionally clear.

Nemo Submarine Ayia Napa — Underwater viewing tours from Ayia Napa. Glass-bottom sections allow you to observe marine life without diving. Great for families.

Yellow Submarine — Semi-submarine boat trips from Ayia Napa harbour. One of the most distinctive experiences in the area — popular with children and non-swimmers.

Watersports at Nissi Bay

Nissi Bay itself is one of the best watersports locations on the island. The water is calm enough for beginners, the operators are professional, and the range of activities — jet skiing, parasailing, wakeboarding, banana boats, paddleboarding — covers every level of adrenaline requirement. For the full Fig Tree Bay experience, Paralimni (15 minutes east) has an equally strong watersports setup.

FigTreeBay Watersports — Paralimni (Fig Tree Bay). Jet skiing, parasailing, paddleboarding, banana boats, and more. Family-friendly operation at one of Cyprus’s most beautiful beaches.

Stavros Water Sports — Protaras / Fig Tree Bay. Family-owned since 1975. One of the most experienced watersports operators in the east coast area.

Wet and Wild Watersports Protaras — Paralimni. Full watersports and boat hire operation. Good option for groups wanting multiple activities in one session.

XS & Stephanos Watersports — Paralimni. Comprehensive watersports centre with jet skis, tubes, and water sports equipment hire.

Diving and snorkelling

The waters around Ayia Napa and Larnaca are among the best diving destinations in the Mediterranean. The most famous site is the Zenobia wreck off Larnaca — a 178-metre Swedish ferry that sank in 1980 and is now consistently ranked in the top ten wreck dives in the world. Closer to Nissi Beach, the sea caves provide excellent snorkelling and beginner dive conditions, with remarkable underwater visibility year-round.

Dive-In Larnaca — PADI-certified dive centre offering guided dives, courses for beginners, and Zenobia wreck dives. 45 minutes from Nissi Beach but worth the drive for serious divers.

Drive and Dive with Mario — Larnaca-based professional scuba diving centre. PADI courses, guided dives, and equipment hire. Strong reputation in the local diving community.

Viking Divers Scuba Diving Larnaca Cyprus — Experienced dive operation covering the Zenobia wreck and Larnaca Bay sites. Equipment hire and guided dive packages available.

The Ayia Napa sea caves

The sea caves on the eastern edge of Ayia Napa — between the town and Cape Greco — are one of the most visually dramatic stretches of coastline in Cyprus. Ancient sea erosion has carved a series of arches, tunnels, and caverns into the cliffs, and the water inside turns extraordinary colours in the right light. You can reach some of them on foot via the coastal path from Cape Greco, but the best views — and access to caves you can’t reach on land — are from the water.

Most boat trip operators out of Ayia Napa harbour include the sea caves on their route. If you want to go at your own pace, self-drive boat hire or a kayak rental gets you closest to the formations themselves.

Scubacat Boat Trips & Private Charters — Ayia Napa. Boat trips and private charters including sea cave routes. Good option for small groups wanting a flexible itinerary.

Discovery Cruises Cyprus — Ayia Napa harbour. Scheduled cruises and private charters covering the sea caves and Cape Greco coastline.

Jeep safaris and inland adventures

The area around Ayia Napa is known for its distinctive red earth — the Kokkinochoria (“red villages”) district stretches inland from the coast and looks completely different from the beach. A jeep safari is the best way to explore it: unsealed roads, whitewashed villages, viewpoints overlooking the coast from above, and the occasional stop at a local kafeneion for a coffee that costs nothing and takes an hour.

Trackers Jeep Safari Tours Cyprus — Ayia Napa’s most established jeep safari operator. Over 20 years running off-road tours through the Kokkinochoria villages, Cape Greco, and the hinterland. Day trips and custom routes available. Highly recommended for first-timers.

Niki Travel & Tours — Paralimni. Full range of excursions including jeep safaris, buggy rentals, and guided tours across the east coast region.

Food and drink worth seeking out

The restaurants immediately around Nissi Beach are geared toward tourists and priced accordingly. The better eating is five minutes in any direction — village tavernas in the Kokkinochoria area, seafood spots at the harbour, and the odd gem that hasn’t made it onto any tourist map yet. One food experience in the area is worth singling out for a special mention:

Cyprus Taste Tours Larnaca — The most-reviewed food experience in the east of Cyprus. Guided food and wine tours with on-site tastings, rated 5.0/5 by 383 visitors. Based in Larnaca (40 minutes from Nissi Beach) but worth the drive — this is the kind of afternoon that becomes the highlight of the trip.

For food closer to Nissi Beach, the Ayia Napa harbour area has a decent selection of seafood restaurants serving fresh catches daily. Larnaca’s old town — 40 minutes west — has a significantly better overall restaurant scene if you have a car and an evening to spare.

Culture and hidden gems

Ayia Napa has more cultural depth than its party reputation suggests. These are the three most worthwhile stops.

Thalassa Municipal Museum

One of the best small museums in Cyprus and almost always empty. The Thalassa covers the maritime history of Cyprus with an extraordinary collection of ancient artefacts, a full-scale replica of an ancient Cypriot sailing ship, and exhibits on the island’s relationship with the sea from prehistory to the present.

Thalassa Municipal Museum of the Sea — Ayia Napa. Open Tuesday–Sunday. Small entrance fee. One of the most undervisited cultural attractions on the island — genuinely impressive collection.

Ayia Napa Monastery

The 16th-century monastery in the centre of Ayia Napa is a remarkable thing to find in the middle of a resort town. Built around a natural cave chapel, with a working fountain, fig trees, and remarkably well-preserved cloisters, it’s free to visit and takes about 30 minutes. Go in the morning before the heat builds.

Cape Greco National Forest Park

The cape at the southeastern tip of Cyprus — 10 minutes from Nissi Beach by car — is a protected national forest park with walking trails, viewpoints, sea caves accessible on foot, and some of the most dramatic coastal scenery on the island. Free to visit. The sunset from the viewpoint is worth every tourist cliché written about it.

Spa and wellness near Nissi Beach

After a day on the water or a jeep track, a spa session makes sense. Ayia Napa has a solid wellness offering — mostly hotel spas and treatment centres along the main resort strip, with quality varying considerably. These are the ones worth booking.

Armonia Spa & Wellness by Alion Beach Hotel — Ayia Napa. Full-service hotel spa with treatments, hydrotherapy, and wellness packages. One of the best spa facilities in the resort.

Coral Spa — Ayia Napa. Treatments and wellness services in a relaxed setting. Good for a half-day recovery session mid-holiday.

Marrakech Massage & SPA / Moroccan Hamam — Ayia Napa. Moroccan hammam experience and massage treatments. A different kind of spa day — worth it for the hammam alone.

Practical information

Getting to Nissi Beach

Nissi Beach is 3km west of Ayia Napa town centre. From Larnaca Airport it’s roughly 45 minutes by car or taxi. Local buses run between Ayia Napa town centre, Nissi Avenue, and WaterWorld Waterpark — useful for moving between the beach and the harbour area without a car.

Best time to visit

Peak season (July–August) means Nissi Beach at full capacity — the atmosphere is electric but the beach is genuinely packed and everything needs to be booked in advance. May, June, September, and October offer warm water, manageable crowds, and significantly better availability on boat charters, watersports, and restaurant tables. The sea stays swimmable well into November.

Booking tips

  • Boat charters — book at least 2 weeks ahead in July and August. Good dates sell out.
  • Watersports — no booking needed, show up on the day. Mornings are less crowded.
  • Jeep safaris — book 2–3 days ahead in peak season. Trackers fills up fast.
  • Spa treatments — book same-day or next-day. Most hotel spas have availability.
  • Dining — harbour restaurants and popular tavernas need advance reservations in August.
